Who we are: We are people in Shelby County who demand a government that represents everyone and serves the common good, from local offices to national elections.  

What we do: Voter outreach, issue advocacy, community engagement, and candidate endorsement.

Key values: Grassroots Democracy, Social Justice, Ecological Wisdom, Nonviolence, Decentralization, Community-based Economics, Womanism, Feminism, Respect for Diversity, Personal and Global Responsibility, and Sustainability.  

Leadership structure: Coordinating committee with two co-chairs, treasurer, secretary, and one at-large member.  

Dues: $50 annually for general membership.  $20 annually for students with valid student ID.  Dues may be paid on a payment plan of $6 in January and $4 each month thereafter.

Tentative Working groups:

  1. Outreach/Education: This group will organize events about the Green Party and important topics like regulations, upcoming legislative challenges, and possible reforms.

  2. Accountability: This group will hold our elected representatives at the local, state, and federal levels accountable to their constituents.

  3. Local Governance: This group will work to create a local Green platform that links the Green Party’s national platform to local policies.  Eventually, it will also seek candidates to run on the Green ticket.

2017-2018 goals: develop a diverse membership, gain Green ballot line, hold at least 4 educational events, develop cohesive local platform, respond to local governmental initiatives with dedication a sense of purpose.
